EMERGENCY
VET CARE Lakeside
Friends of the animals helps low-income Mexican nationals pay for
emergency veterinary care for their cats and dogs. Pet owners pay
whatever they can and the balance is covered by funds from LFA donations.
In these cases, the veterinarian often makes a significant reduction
in the bill. LFA

SPAY & NEUTER SURGERIES We sponsor up to 45 cat and dog sterilizations
every month for low-income pet owners. Participating lakeside vets
offer reduced prices to LFA for their services.
FOOD FOR RESCUED ANIMALS Rescued animals need to eat so Lakeside
Friends of the Animals provides food to animal rescue groups that
otherwise would not be able to feed the animals they rescue.
FELINE LEUKEMIA TESTING Twenty-five percent of cats brought to
shelters in the Lake Chapala area test positive for feline leukemia
(compared to 2-3 percent in the United States). By identifying infected
cats and kittens, shelters can prevent the spread of this deadly disease
to healthy shelter populations.
