Hi Cat Lovers,
This is the kind of thing that makes it all worthwhile.......
Last October a litter of kittens was born to a somewhat feral Mom. A
lady who has never had a cat and never apparently even liked cats
somehow became involved in not only rescuing the babies but in raising
them from the time they were very small. (I think the Mom came and
went???). She fell in love -- big time! But she's a Snowbird, so when
the kittens were nearing 4 months of age she reluctantly brought them
to the shelter, already vaccinated etc. and beautifully socialized.
She was a basket case! She cried when she brought them. She came back a
few times and cried each time, believing herself to have done a
terrible thing to them. But then she started to see that they were in a
nice place, and they were happy, and she started to volunteer cat sit
several times a day.
One was adopted very quickly. Then another. Then she had to leave. More
tears! I promised to let her know when Jessica, the remaining kitten,
found a new home. Of course we're now in the bad season when adopters
are few and far between but kittens pour in the doors, and as most of
her cat friends left and Jessica remained, she started to grow
despondent and aloof.
A friend sent photos of Jessica to her first Mom. Mom felt the same way
-- seeing despondence and despair growing in this beautiful cat. Her
solution? This week she flew back here from Sudbury, Ontario (Canada!!)
for the sole purpose of taking Jessica home with her! (I knew she was
coming, and arranged for rabies vacc and health certificate, since she
was on a fast turn-around.)
Did Jessica know her? You bet! A cat who had not purred in at least 2
weeks was beside herself with pleasure, and immediately pushed her way
into the carrier when Margaret brought it this afternoon! I gave her
one last, bit hug and off she went to become a Canuck (Canadian slang
term, kind of like "Yank", for you Americans...)!
How's THAT for a fairy-tale ending?
